Font - The owner of the company I brew for announced how little I get paid to the whole bar staff. So I work for a brewery in Colorado. About 6 months ago I was thrusted into the head brewers position as the previous one went MIA. It's been a ton of work. I usually work 7 days a week under the impression of making sacrifices to catch up on beers that were lost in the transition of brewers. Part of those sacrifices were that I didn't get a raise to compensate me for all the extra work. At first I

Font - Fast forward to last week, during our all staff meeting with the owners..they announced that we're getting back on track and blah blah blah. Then he goes on to mention me (trying to sound like a shoutout) but embarrassed me in front of the whole staff that I barley make a dollar above minimum wage.

Font - I feel embarrassed and slowly losing faith in this job. Should I give an ultimatum or just find a job elsewhere?

Font - EDIT: thank you all. I wasn't expecting this overwhelming response so I want to answer a few questions. It's not a common brewery. It's a small nano brewery in central colorado. I won't name the brewery. I have too much respect for the people that do work hard in this place for them to feel hurt by my actions. I have the back of the staff.

Font - I'm moving forward with looking for a headbrewer position elsewhere and set my line in the sand If things aren't made right by June 15th I'm gone. This has been hard because I'm not one that usually sticks up for themselves in the work place but the response from this post has made me realize I'm better than 16 dollars an hour.

Font - Doctrevil 21 hr. ago They realized they had more self worth, now it's the OP's turn, and so the cycle of brewing company and underpaid brewer continues. But seriously, I have family that work for a brewery, just leave. Plenty of breweries actually pay livable wages with good benefits. Know your worth and get the out. 1.4k Reply Share

Font - CPolland12 23 hr. ago Ask for the raise you so obviously deserve. Come in with reference to what that position should be making, show your hours worked, and plead your case. If they say no, then find a place that will respect you and your efforts 2.3k Reply Share

Font - Rubric Marine 22 hr. ago I am also a brewer, in colorado who is looking for work, dm me the spot so I know to avoid it when I see it on Probrewer. That industry is so f up its hard to articulate to others, you have my deepest sympathy. We caught our former owners mocking the operations staff for the audacity to ask for a 1$/hr raise and not even myself, the head brewer at the time, just my team. F you City Barrel, directly, in the face. 585 Reply Share

Font - aragathor . 23 hr. ago Part of those sacrifices were that I didn't get a raise to compensate me for all the extra work. Excuse me? What? You work your off 7 days a week and you don't even get a raise for that? Did they at least pay you for the overtime?

Font - Leave brother, but before you leave make sure they formalize your position as head brewer, so you can at least profit from that. Then tell them your pay is not commensurate with responsibilities. You are being used by them. They are f around, they need to find out. 112 Reply Share

Font - imaninjayoucantseeme 23 hr. ago It sounds like you are the main reason the company is "back on track". If you're amicable with the owners sit down with them and tell them how you feel honestly. I recommend writing something out if it helps. It should all fit on one page single sided.

Font - If you feel you've been neglected and they will continue to take advantage of your hard work, then walk and find something else. Don't give them notice. It sucks your bank balance won't feel it, but they'll pay for their mistake and maybe in another 6 months they'll be close to "on track".

Font - Orcus424 22 hr. ago Should I give an ultimatum or just find a job elsewhere? It's always easier to find a job while currently having a job. Don't give an ultimatum unless you already have a new job lined up.
